ZIPAIR senior discounts: what exists and what does not

Searches for a 'ZIPAIR senior discount' land on plenty of pages promising one. We would rather be accurate: the airline has no senior fare. This page covers how older travelers actually save on ZIPAIR, how to request assistance at the airport, and the questions we hear from travelers in their 60s, 70s and 80s flying to Japan.

1-866-884-3459 is our independent assistance number. It is not ZIPAIR Tokyo's official phone number; the airline itself takes inquiries at zipair.net/en/help.

How older travelers actually save on ZIPAIR

Sale periods and midweek dates

ZIPAIR runs frequent sales on U.S. routes. Retired travelers with flexible dates get the best of these — Tuesday/Wednesday departures outside school holidays are consistently cheapest.

Book the bundle you need, not the biggest

A checked bag and a meal are the two add-ons most travelers want. Buying them individually or in a Value-type bundle beats paying airport rates.

Flex Biz for uncertain plans

If health or family circumstances might change, the voucher option (97% value 30+ days out) is inexpensive insurance against losing the whole fare.

Assistance and comfort

  • Wheelchair and mobility assistance can be requested in advance through the booking; request it early and reconfirm 48 hours before departure.
  • ZIP Full-Flat is the single biggest comfort upgrade for an 11–14 hour flight and is priced as a fare difference — see our upgrade page.
  • Medication and medical devices travel in the cabin; carry prescriptions and a doctor's letter for CPAP or injectables.
  • Standard-seat tips: choose an aisle seat near the front for easier movement; pre-order a meal so you are not dependent on onboard ordering via the seatback QR code.
  • Travel insurance with medical coverage is strongly recommended — ZIPAIR's fares are non-refundable and the airline does not cover consequential costs.
Verify before you act. Fare rules, fees and route details on this page reflect ZIPAIR's published conditions as of September 2026 and can change. Always confirm the current rule in your booking or on zipair.net before making a decision.

Questions we hear from older travelers

Is there a discount for AARP members or retirees?

No. ZIPAIR has no partnership or membership discounts of that kind.

Can a companion sit with me?

Yes, by selecting seats together at booking (a small fee may apply in Standard). Full-Flat seats are individual 1-2-1 pods; the center pair is closest.

What if I need to cancel for a medical reason?

Standard fares remain non-refundable except taxes. Flex Biz vouchers and travel insurance are the practical protections; we help you file either.

Is Narita manageable for someone who walks slowly?

Yes with assistance requested in advance. Narita provides wheelchair support from the aircraft through immigration and to ground transport.
